What is Good Thirteen?
Good Thirteen is an open-layout pairing game where ten cards are dealt face-up in two rows of five. All ten are available simultaneously — no stacking or blocking. Pairs of pip cards totaling 13 are removed together (Queen+Ace, Jack+2, 10+3, 9+4, 8+5, 7+6), and Kings are removed alone (value 13 alone). The stock refills positions after each removal. Win by clearing all 52 cards.
Full rules
Ten cards are dealt face-up; all available. Legal removals:
- Two pip cards totaling 13: Q+A, J+2, 10+3, 9+4, 8+5, 7+6
- Kings removed alone (value 13)
Refill all removed positions from stock after each removal (or all at once, depending on implementation). Win by clearing all 52 cards.
Good Thirteen vs. Baroness
Both games pair to 13 and remove Kings alone. Baroness uses a five-column row-deal format where each column stacks cards (only the top is available). Good Thirteen uses an open ten-card layout where all cards are immediately accessible. Good Thirteen is therefore more about pair selection among many options simultaneously; Baroness is more about which column to unstack first.
