Red and Black Strategy

Make each empty column count.

A column you clear immediately takes a replacement from the waste or stock. Use that rule to free waste cards while keeping useful tableau tops available.

Check the waste before clearing a column

Suppose a lone black Four can move onto a red Five. Clearing its column pulls in the top waste card immediately. If that waste card has been hard to place, this is a useful way to release it and uncover the next waste card.

When waste is empty, the replacement comes from the face-down stock. You cannot reserve a gap for a future King or choose a different replacement.

Read both rank and color

A foundation headed by a black Six needs a red Seven, either Hearts or Diamonds. Suit matching is unnecessary. Check all eight foundation tops before covering a playable card on the tableau.

Several foundations can need the same rank and color. Their immediate requirements are equivalent; choose a destination to complete the move. Hints show legal choices rather than promising a winning continuation.

Keep single-card movement in mind

A descending sequence looks tidy, but only its exposed bottom card moves. You cannot lift the whole sequence to uncover its base. Before adding a card, consider whether a foundation or another column will let you remove it later.

After stock and waste are exhausted, empty columns stay empty. They cannot serve as temporary parking spaces for rearranging the remaining cards.

Pause before drawing

There is only one stock pass. Drawing covers the current waste top, so first check whether it can reach a foundation, a tableau top, or an automatically refilled column.

You may draw even when tableau moves remain. Repeatedly moving the same card between equivalent columns does not help; look for transfers that expose a new card or open a foundation play.

Compare decisions with Undo

Undo restores both the card move and its automatic refill. Use it to compare which column to clear. Restart replays the same seed, while New Game starts a different deal.

Running out of stock does not end play immediately. Keep using tableau and waste tops until the foundations are complete or no legal moves remain.
