What is Nestor Doublets?
Nestor Doublets is a variant of Nestor Solitaire with a wider, shallower layout. Where standard Nestor uses eight columns of six cards, Doublets uses twelve shorter columns. The same-rank-pair matching rule applies, with the same constraint that no two cards of the same rank appear in the same column. The wider layout creates more available column tops at once, producing denser early-game pair options but more complex sequencing decisions.
How Doublets differs from Nestor
Twelve columns of fewer cards each means more cards are simultaneously accessible compared to eight columns of six. In Nestor, roughly 12 column tops are available (8 columns + 4 reserve). In Doublets, roughly 16 column tops are available (12 columns + 4 reserve). This wider access means more pair choices per turn — but also more to consider before each removal.
The shallower columns mean removing a pair exposes more of each column more quickly. Clearing a column to empty also happens faster, which can change reserve and access dynamics earlier in the game.

Pair selection in a wider layout
With more column tops available simultaneously, the evaluation of which pair to remove becomes more complex. In standard Nestor, most turns have only a few valid pairs. In Doublets, multiple valid pairs may be available at once — and choosing the pair that most improves future access (by revealing useful cards below) requires scanning more options.
